Adjustment of R$0.48 per liter will be partially offset by a subsidy of R$0.44 from the federal government
A Petrobras announced this Thursday (28) a readjustment of R$0.48 per liter in the price of gasoline A sold to distributors.
Despite the increase, the state-owned company informed that it will grant a discount of R$0.44 per liter, reducing the effective impact to R$0.04 per liter.
According to the new price comes into effect from this Friday (29). As a result, the average price of gasoline A for distributors rises from R$2.57 to R$2.61 per liter.
In practice, the federal government will pay part of the fuel price through a subsidy of R$0.44 per liter. The measure was established by decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
In this way, Petrobras reverses the sequence of drops in gasoline prices, marking the first increase in fuel since 2024. Before that, the state-owned company had promoted three consecutive price reductions: in July 2025 (-5.4%), November 2025 (-5%) and January 2026 (-5.2%).
In a statement, Petrobras stated that the effect on distributors and the final consumer is “mitigated by the economic subsidy granted”.
The state-owned company also explained that, considering the mandatory mixture of 70% A gasoline and 30% anhydrous ethanol in gasoline sold at gas stations, the impact on the end consumer should be up to R$0.03 per liter.
“The final price of gasoline C at the pumps will have a residual increase of a maximum of R$0.03 per liter,” informed the company.
The subsidy will be paid directly to fuel producers and importers by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).
