Created with the expectation of being a model for other Federal Regional Courts, the TRF-6, headquartered in , held on the 21st and 22nd of this month the “Congress on Law, Life and Art”, organized by the Federal Justice Council and the School of Judiciary of the 6th Region.
The event goes against the intention of the (National Council of Justice) to distance the Judiciary from political interests and private lobbies.
Luiz Edson Fachin, president of the CNJ, “We cannot allow Justice to be trapped in parochial interests, economic convenience or political calculations.”
The congress had the support and resources of the following public and private entities: Ajufe (Association of Federal Judges of Brazil), Ajufe-MG, Brazilian Bar Association in Minas Gerais, Codemge, Copasa, Cemig, Government of Brazil and Instituto Inhotim.
Luis Felipe Salomão, elected president of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), was the general coordinator of the congress. Mônica Sifuentes, former president of TRF-6 and current director of the School of Judiciary, was the scientific coordinator.
from , gave a conference on law, life and art, at the closing.
The Minas Gerais Section informs that it “institutionally supported the event, which had the participation of lawyers, from the public and private sector, defenders, members of the MP, judges, judges and authorities of the Judiciary”. It does not reveal the value of the support.
The president of OAB-MG, Gustavo Chalfum, highlighted “the TRF-6’s commitment to bringing Justice closer to society and ensuring more effective access to Justice”.
OAB-MG paid for the event’s lunch at the four-star restaurant Pacato, in BH, which states that its “mission is to provide diners with a slowed-down moment, of calm and peaceful appreciation of life, with inventive backyard cuisine that makes time stand still.”
Invited by TRF-6, writer Leila Ferreira “reflected on the courage to cultivate kindness and good humor as antidotes to a fast-paced world”.
The event brought together federal and state magistrates, members of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (), the Federal Public Ministry (MPU), the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU), the Federal Police (PF) and the Attorney General’s Office (), as well as public servants and lawyers, totaling 244 participants.
Among the topics discussed were “Art market: crime and regulation”, “Cultural and Historical Heritage”, “Law and Psychoanalysis”, “Law and Art” and “Law, Music and Literature”.
The same thing happened on other occasions. As there is apparently nothing to celebrate (in 2024 and 2025, the TRF-6 was the least productive of the federal regional courts), an event is created.
The congress was the idea of Mônica Sifuentes, based on the following concern: “The law, when it moves away from concrete human experience, runs the risk of becoming excessively technical and, paradoxically, less fair.”
“We want to encourage reflection that goes beyond the question ‘what is the applicable standard?’ and moves on to ‘what is the human impact of this decision?'”,
The concept of a humanized Judiciary is not new.
In 2023, the first event in the management of Sifuentes took place with public resources and Ajufe-MG.
The program included a lecture by Cristian Adrian Flores Maldonado, president of the Brazilian Masonic Confederation. The meeting was justified as “the development of interpersonal skills, fundamental for a more humanized performance of the Judiciary”.
The TRF-6 Judiciary School informs that there was no accommodation at the Clara Resort (in Inhotim). The activities were carried out exclusively at TRF-6 and at Instituto Inhotim.
To travel to the institute, in Brumadinho, round-trip transportation by bus was provided to participants.
The court did not inform, as requested, the total cost of the event and the amounts of support from participating entities. The column sought out minister Cármen Lúcia to comment on the matter, but she did not respond.
