The Romanian president is getting tougher against Russia. He called a security council after the drone incident

Bucharest will not allow the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine to affect Romanian citizens, Romanian President Nicuşor Dan said on Friday after a drone struck a residential building in the city of Galati. At the same time, the head of state called a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense to discuss the consequences of the incident.

Incident response

On Friday, the President instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately present a set of measures aimed at the country’s relations with Russia, which will be “appropriate to this serious situation.”

“I called a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense today to discuss the consequences of the most serious incident that has hit the country’s territory since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine. We will take appropriate measures against Russia,” the president announced on Facebook. He also expressed support for the injured, their families and people affected by the attack, and called for coordinated and proportionate measures at the allied and international level.

Russia’s responsibility

“The Russian Federation bears full responsibility for this incident. What happened today in Galati is a direct consequence of the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine, as well as the irresponsible and indiscriminate way in which Moscow uses weapon systems in the immediate vicinity of NATO’s borders, as well as its systematic violation of international law,” stressed Dan. “Dialogue with allied military structures is taking place in real time,” he noted, adding that Romania will notify the UN Security Council of Russia’s repeated violations of international law.

A drone, believed to be from Russia, crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galati on Friday night, the Romanian Ministry of Defense said. A 53-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy suffered minor injuries in the incident, and rescuers reported that they were stabilized.
