A 19-year-old woman from Upper Austria has been hospitalized at Vienna’s Favoriten clinic since Thursday, where she will continue to be under the care of doctors. No information has been released about the patient’s actual diagnosis. In this context, WIGEV referred to regulations on personal data protection, APA reminded.
The young woman worked as a volunteer for Caritas, and since August 2025 she has been working in an orphanage in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. According to the Austrian Ministry of Health, she returned from this African country on Monday. A car picked her up at Vienna’s Schwechat airport and she arrived home the same day, in the Mühlviertel region in Upper Austria.
Two days later, she showed symptoms of the disease and she was admitted to the Hospital of the Sisters of Mercy in Linz, on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. an order was issued for her isolation. Her mother was also placed in quarantine. They were in coordination with the city council in Linz further steps taken in the event of an Ebola infectionnoted the APA. On Thursday, the young woman was taken to the Favoriten clinic in Vienna.
According to the Vienna Health Care Association, the Favoriten clinic in Austria is the only one in the country to have special intensive care rooms for the treatment of highly pathogenic infectious agents. Special isolation units are equipped with multi-stage locking systems and vacuum technology, “which ensures that potential pathogens cannot escape from the treatment area,” explained the spokeswoman of the association.
