In the early parliamentary elections in Malta, according to preliminary results, the Labor Party (MLP) won again and secured its fourth term in office. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
The election was held on Saturday and early voting was called by the ruling Labor party. Citing global geopolitical concerns over the Iran war, Prime Minister Robert Abela of the MLP said his government needed a new mandate to guide Malta and its citizens through the looming energy crisis.
Counting of votes continues
Counting of votes began on Sunday morning and official results are expected later in the day.
According to the Malta Today newspaper, Prime Minister Abela commented on the preliminary results, describing the results as a victory for all Maltese and the people of the island of Gozo. “We will continue to implement the election program,” he said, calling for national unity to prevail.
Celebrations and first data
Celebrations for Labour’s victory have already begun in Malta, with party supporters also gathering outside the party’s headquarters.
According to the latest figures, the difference in votes between the leading MLP and the conservative Nationalist Party (PN) is less than 19,000.
