A historic trial begins at the Vienna Regional Court on Monday. Two former representatives of the Syrian regime are accused of torture and serious crimes against detained civilians. Regime representatives have only been prosecuted before a European court twice since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria. It is the first trial of its kind since the fall of long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad. Over the course of the 13 days of the trial, victims will travel from Europe and Syria. The STANDARD reports live from the courtroom in the first week.
