Flights and ferries are canceled in Japan as tropical storm arrives

Flights and ferries in Okinawa prefecture, in southwestern Japan, were canceled this Monday (1st) due to the approach of a strong tropical storm.

Jangmi, the name given to the storm, is expected to bring heavy rain and intense winds to southwestern Japan, with the Japan Meteorological Agency predicting gusts of up to 160 km/h.

Naha Airport, the main international and domestic gateway to , will remain closed on Monday, airport authorities said.

The approaching storm also caused the cancellation of ferries and the cancellation of more than 7,000 homes, according to Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
