Trump appoints new US ambassador to Brazil after more than a year without a representative

Daniel Perez, Republican from Florida and current president of the state House of Representatives, was appointed to head the American mission in Brasília

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, appointed this Monday (1st) a new ambassador for the country to Brazil. The chosen one is Daniel Perez, state representative in Florida for the Republican Party.

Perez’s name was sent by the White House to the US Senate, which must approve the nomination. The Brazilian government also needs to accept the foreign representative.

The appointment fills a gap in American diplomacy in Brazil, which has been without an ambassador for more than a year. Elizabeth Bagley, nominated by Joe Biden, left her post at the end of the Democrat’s term and, until now, had not been replaced.
