Left minimized Bolsonaros’ approach to Trump, says Janones

A delegation of government deputies, who are in the USA, sanctioned Flávio and Eduardo

Government deputies on an official mission in Washington said this Wednesday (June 3, 2026) that the Brazilian left made a mistake because of “lack of humility” by belittling, in recent years, the Bolsonaro family’s rapprochement with the (Republican Party) government and Republican congressmen in the United States.

In conversation with journalists in the North American capital, the congressmen stated that the opposition’s travels were minimized by the left and that the trip to the USA to meet with members of the Democratic Party marks a reaction “late but necessary” to create a counterpoint and stop what they classify as attacks on Brazil’s sovereignty.

“And even to make a half-blame here, I think that in our camp, in the progressive camp, there was a lack of humility, of taking seriously this approach of the Bolsonaro family, in the White House, especially with Donald Trump. So, whenever an article came out, it had that tone of contempt, of, oh, he went there to beg for a photo, oh, he went there to try to get a little space. And each time they are delivering more results against the country”said the deputy (Avante-MG).

The main reflection of this opposition articulation, according to government officials, was the imposition of new trade tariffs by the White House against Brazilian products. The deputies attributed the new sanction to the senator (PL-RJ) and the former deputy.

“When they take tariff measures, it increases inflation here too, and this also impacts the life of North American society. And it is important to say the following: these definitions have the collaboration, the alliance, the complicity of Brazilian leaders, mainly Flávio and Eduardo Bolsonaro. We need to denounce this loud and clear”said the deputy (PC do B-RJ).

The delegation also refuted the US government’s arguments about the reasons for the sanctions and the inclusion of Brazil in discussions on organized crime and security. The deputies contested the thesis that the United States’ trade balance is in deficit in relation to Brazil and that the arguments used by the US government are “liars”.

Another point criticized was Washington’s reaction to the regulation of digital platforms promoted by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). According to the deputies, the creation of minimum rules by the Judiciary aims to contain hate crimes and fake news on the networks, but has been used by the opposition to accuse Brazil of violating freedom of expression.

PCC E CV

According to the deputies, the PT bench in Congress will call on congressmen from the Democratic Party to demand that the North American government comply with arrest and extradition orders for Brazilians under investigation abroad, such as businessman Ricardo Magro – linked to the Refit refinery and the Carbono Oculto operation –, in addition to investigating the alleged money laundering of Brazilian criminal factions (such as the PCC and CV) in North American territory.
