Neymar did not travel with the team for the last friendly before the World Cup, on Saturday, against Egypt, in Cleveland. He remains in New Jersey, where he is recovering from an injury, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced this Thursday (4).
The 34-year-old Brazilian star suffered a muscle injury to his right calf in May, which raised doubts about whether he would be fit for the team’s debut at the World Cup, which will be held in North America.
“Athlete Neymar will not travel with the delegation to Cleveland” and “will remain in New Jersey, undergoing physiotherapeutic treatment and intensifying his physical recovery program”, stated the CBF.
Top scorer in the history of the national team in official games, with 79 goals — surpassing Pelé —, the Santos striker has not worn the ‘hopscotch’ since the end of 2023 due to recurring physical problems.
After the friendly against Egypt, on Saturday, the team will begin their World Cup campaign on June 13, against Morocco, in Group C, which also includes Scotland and Haiti.
