Boeing 787 landing gear gives way at German airport

Lufthansa plane was stopped in Frankfurt before flying to Los Angeles; employees were injured

The front landing gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 collapsed this Thursday (June 4, 2026) while the plane was stopped at a gate at Frankfurt airport, Germany. The front part of the plane hit the ground.

The jet was being prepared for a flight to Los Angeles (USA). Passenger boarding had not yet begun. There were crew members on board and ground personnel in the vicinity of the aircraft.

Employees were injured and received medical treatment, according to Lufthansa. The flight was canceled after the incident.

Images from the scene show the front wheels sliding before the aircraft crashed. Lufthansa and the responsible authorities are investigating the causes. Boeing stated that it is following the case and providing support to the airline.
