Information on the construction of a tunnel in the Bering Strait
As he mentioned, the two sides are in active discussions on possible joint development projects in the Arctic circle, while at the same time he noted that recently there has been progress in contacts between Moscow and Washington.
“Substantial progress has been achieved in the dialogue between Russia and the United States, despite the efforts of some circles that seek to maintain the confrontation and attempt to obstruct any rapprochement,” Dmitriev said, according to Russia’s RIA news agency.
Russian television network Zvezda claimed that one of the agreements to be signed tomorrow between the US and Russia will be to build a tunnel under the Bering Strait that will connect Russia to Alaska. This information has not been officially confirmed at the moment, but this scenario is not new and in the past there were reports that the two sides were discussing something like this.
Contacts with Witkoff and Kushner
The Russian official also revealed that he had phone conversations during the week with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and an active figure in international diplomacy. As he mentioned, he will have other discussions with them during the week.
His remarks come at a time when the Russian side is seeking to highlight channels of communication with the US government, despite disagreements that persist on a number of international issues.
