Tarcísio’s leader is accused of gender violence – 06/05/2026 – Panel

State deputy Ana Carolina Serra () accused the leader of the Tarcísiode Freitas government in the Legislative Assembly, Gilmaci Santos (Republicans), of gender-based political violence after he removed the president of , Carlos Augusto Piani, from a commission in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo.

The hearing at the Metropolitan Affairs Commission, last Wednesday (3), had not yet started due to lack of quorum, as there were less than half of the members present. Even so, they asked to hold an informal session.

The government leader, who is an alternate member of the collegiate, disagreed and removed the executive from the room, amid an argument with Serra, president of the commission. She claims she was embarrassed and disrespected.

The president of Sabesp had been summoned to provide clarifications on water supply to the population of São Paulo.

To the Panel, the government leader said that there were only opposition representatives in the room and accused his opponents of using the episode politically.

“The meeting did not exist. Someone could legally question the hearing, since there would be no transmission or shorthand notes,” Gilmaci told the column.

The State Executive of the PSDB of São Paulo repudiated the deputy’s conduct and said that he exceeded the limits of democratic debate by raising the tone in a disrespectful manner, incompatible with the liturgy of the position.

“Political gender violence manifests itself precisely when women are embarrassed, disqualified or disrespected in the exercise of their public functions”, says the note.

The Republicans, in turn, stated that the removal of the president of Sabesp was a strictly technical measure as they understood that the hearing should take place within the regulatory rules.

“We vehemently refute any insinuation of gender-based political violence on the part of Deputy Gilmaci. His actions were based exclusively on observing the Assembly’s internal regulations,” he said in a statement.
