USA warns citizens about scams at SP LGBT+ Parade

Embassy and consulates recommend caution with ‘Good night, Cinderella’ and dating apps during the event

The United States embassy and consulates in Brazil for North American citizens who intend to participate in the São Paulo LGBT+ Parade this Sunday. In 2026, the event celebrates 30 years of mobilization on Avenida Paulista. Read (PDF – 548 kB).

The statement highlights the risk of theft, robberies and scams. According to diplomatic representations, criminals often approach foreigners through dating apps or in bars. In these places, victims can be drugged and robbed in actions known as “Good night, Cinderella”.

SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS

The North American government advised its citizens to adopt preventive measures while at the event:

  • do not react: the main recommendation is to avoid any physical reaction in attempted theft;
  • food and drinks: do not accept items offered by strangers or leave glasses unattended;
  • valuables: avoid wearing jewelry and carrying large amounts of cash;
  • displacement: Pay attention when walking or driving at night, especially in transport terminals and on public transport. The government also recommends avoiding solitary visits to bars and nightclubs.

In case of emergency, the advice is to look for police officers, volunteers or identified organizers, in addition to medical stations and ambulances distributed along the parade route.
