The visit of Leo XIV to Spain, from this Saturday to next Friday, the 12th, will not be like those of the other popes. There were two, John Paul II (five trips from 1982 to 2003) and Benedict XVI (three, from 2006 to 2011). They represented a traditional and conservative Church, and the last time Ratzinger came, 15 years ago, it was a different time, bipartisanship still existed and WhatsApp was a novelty. In fact, two of the main arguments that the Pope will probably address now were absent, two of the most contemporary political events, very marked in Spain: polarization and hatred of immigrants. They are two priority issues for Robert Prevost, an American and a Peruvian, who in the last two months has become a moral antagonist of Trump at a global level and his shockwaves throughout the world. Against division and racism, Leo XIV will promote a message of dialogue and coexistence, based on the defense of human dignity.
