Player was injured in the friendly against Egypt; coach Carlo Ancelotti called up midfielder Éderson as a substitute
The right-back of Roma, Wesley, will no longer play for the Brazilian team in the 2026 World Cup. The reason is an injury to his left thigh, this Sunday (June 7, 2026) by (Brazilian Football Confederation). To replace him, coach Carlo Ancelotti called up Atalanta midfielder Éderson.
Wesley was injured during a Brazil friendly Egypt, in Cleveland, last Saturday (June 6). It was the last preparation match before the World Cup. The Brazilian team will debut in the competition on June 13th against Morocco, at 7pm – Brasília time.
On his social networks, Wesley the situation: “Not every battle is won on the field. Today I need to interrupt a dream because of an injury. It hurts not to be able to continue wearing the Brazilian team’s shirt at this moment, but anyone who knows my story knows that giving up was never an option.”
Who is Wesley?
Revealed at Flamengo, Wesley is 22 years old and would play in his first World Cup. He was substituted 16 minutes into the first half after feeling pain in his left leg. The MRI examination revealed an injury to the adductor muscle of the player’s left thigh.
Who is Ederson?
Éderson is 26 years old and played for Cruzeiro, Corinthians and Fortaleza before leaving Brazil in 2022. In Italy, he played for Salernitana and, 6 months later, he transferred to Atalanta. Now, he is negotiating his move to English club Manchester United. For the Brazilian team, Éderson played just 3 games – all under the command of former coach Dorival Júnior.
