Cuneo – Viennese Valentina Cavallar finished the Giro d’Italia in ninth place. With a daily placement in 13th position, the 25-year-old rider from the cycling racing team SD Worx managed to make it into the top ten on the ninth stage on Sunday. Cavallar was 13:12 minutes behind the Dutch Demi Vollering, who triumphed in the classic for the first time. She intercepted her compatriot Anna van der Breggen, who entered the final section with a 50-second lead. Van der Breggen fell back to third place overall (+1:37 minutes), second was the German Antonia Niedermaier (0:30).
