Gunmen open fire at festival in Ohio - 12 injured

A local celebration in Toledo, Ohio, turned bloody when gunmen opened fire near a festival site on Saturday, injuring at least 12 people.

The police authorities have launched a manhunt to identify the perpetrators, while the first estimates speak of an exchange of gunfire between at least two people. Two of the injured are hospitalized in critical condition.

The Toledo Police Department said the incident occurred near the “Old West End” festival, an annual gathering featuring live music and tours of homes in the city’s historic district.

“I am deeply concerned about the situation tonight in Toledo. Summer festivals should be safe places for families to spend time together without fear of violence,” Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said in a statement.

Several videos posted on social media showed people running for safety at the sound of gunfire, as well as rescuers providing first aid to injured people.

“This tragedy really weighs heavily on both the residents and those who visit and enjoy this festival year after year,” said City Councilwoman Teresa Morris.
