Israel attacks Iran: Fighter jets hit a petrochemical plant in the southwest of the country

The Israeli Air Force struck a petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran. The strike hit the Karun Petrochemical factory and caused partial damage.

During Monday’s attacks, the Israeli armed forces hit a petrochemical factory in southwestern Iran in the Khuzistan province. The factory reports “partial damage”. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency and the Times of Israel portal.

“A while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck several targets in the petrochemical complex in the city of Mahschahr in southwestern Iran,” the Israeli military said. The attack was also confirmed by the local media, according to which it was a factory of the Karun Petrochemical company.

Footage circulating on the internet shows white smoke rising from the complex. However, the total extent of the damage is not immediately known.

The airstrikes are a response to Iran’s missile attacks on Israel on Sunday evening. The Israeli military announced at the time that the Iranian ballistic missiles had been shot down. Tehran declared that it launched them in response to attacks in Lebanon’s Beirut, which Israel said were aimed at the Hezbollah militant movement, an ally of Iran.

As a result of the new attacks, there is a threat of the renewal of a wider war in the Middle East, the AP agency wrote.
