0.1 km/h decided: Why there were so many pit lane penalties in Monaco

“My heart is broken,” said Pierre Gasly after the turbulent Monaco Grand Prix. The Alpine driver crossed the finish line in third place, was already happy about his sixth podium place – and suddenly he was only seventh. He received two five-second penalties for exceeding the pit lane speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour twice. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), George Russell (Mercedes) and Franco Colapinto (Alpine) were also caught. Gasly was once too fast by 0.4 km/h, all others by 0.1 km/h. For comparison: There were a total of five such violations on the five previous race weekends.
