The US government expects to complete the border wall with Mexico by the end of 2027

Trump’s border wall with Mexico is to be completed by the end of 2027. The head of US customs promises a massive barrier complemented by modern technologies.

The United States expects President Donald Trump’s long-promised border wall with Mexico to be completed by the end of 2027, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Director Rodney Scott said on Tuesday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

The barrier on the US-Mexico border is made of reinforced metal girders and is supposed to stretch from San Diego on the Pacific coast to the Gulf of Mexico (US Gulf). The exceptions are select areas “where we’ve made a conscious decision that we don’t need it,” Scott said at a Center for Immigration Studies event in Washington. The US-Mexico border measures more than 3,000 kilometers in total.

“The main border wall will be completed by the end of 2027,” Scott said. It will be supplemented by electronic surveillance devices, which, according to the head of the CBP, will be installed by July or August 2028. The 1,900-kilometer section of the border formed by the Rio Grande River between the state of Texas and Mexico will have its own physical barriers.

The goal of the border wall is to prevent illegal migration and narcotics smuggling from Mexico, which according to official data has decreased. However, according to Scott, a physical barrier alone will not be enough to suppress these activities. Therefore, in addition to strengthening patrols, the US also deploys the most modern technological devices, including drones, at the borders.
