Keiko, right, once again passes Sanchez, left, in Peru

The candidate (Fuerza Popular, right) was leading the counting of the 2nd round of the presidential elections in Peru until 5:10 am this Thursday (June 11, 2026). With 98.2% of the ballots counted, the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori had a 651-vote lead over her opponent (Juntos por el Perú, left).

The dispute is among the closest in the country’s recent history. The count is published through electoral records, official documents that record the votes counted at each table.

Mathematically, there is still the possibility of changing the result. Here is the partial table of the investigation:

  • 91,110 minutes recorded;
  • 1,635 minutes to be sent to the Special Electoral Jury;
  • 21 on pendentes.

The count has already gone through twists and turns since the beginning of the week. On Monday (June 8, 2026), Keiko was leading the count, went and returned to the lead in the early hours of this Thursday.

In the last bulletin, the right-wing candidate received 50.002% of the valid votes, compared to 49.998% for her opponent.

The change in leadership occurred with the processing of new minutes in the investigation system. The advance of the count allowed the right-wing candidate to take the lead.

There is still an impasse regarding Sánchez’s candidacy. On Friday (June 5, 2026), the Peruvian court decided that he will be tried for omitting information about his party’s financing in events held from 2018 to 2020.

The court decision did not prevent the candidate from participating in the election. There is still an appeal against the determination.
