Vance stated that the interests of the United States and Israel are not always aligned, despite the historic partnership between the 2 countries. According to him, Netanyahu governs a country that “obviously he has been a very close partner” Washington, but there are times when governments’ priorities diverge.
“Sometimes we are in tune and sometimes we are not”Vance said. “Where there is disagreement, unfortunately for the Israelis, we have to choose the side of the American people, as we always do,” he declared.
The vice president stated that Netanyahu acts firmly in defense of Israel’s interests. He also said that the president of the United States, (Republican Party), has been clear about what he considers best for the country.
Asked about Netanyahu’s possible errors in managing relations with the United States on issues related to Iran, Vance responded affirmatively, but did not cite any examples. Said these conversations “are best left private”.
“But what I would say is that he has been a good partner. We will continue to work together. But where interests diverge, the United States will pursue the best interests of our nation. And that is how it will be.”he stated.
