Cleitinho denies agreement and maintains pre-candidacy in Minas: ‘I haven’t given up on anything’

Senator Cleitinho (Republicanos-MG) used the Plenary rostrum of the Federal Senate on Wednesday (10) to deny information that he had given up running for government of Minas Gerais in 2026. The parliamentarian denied any agreement to give up the pre-candidacy and classified the news as false. “I didn’t give up, I didn’t align myself with not being a candidate. There’s nothing like that,” he stated.

Cleitinho directed criticism at the political group that has controlled the state Executive for decadeswithout mentioning names. “They keep saying that I’m afraid of taking over a State that is broken. They are the same ones who broke the State and want to continue taking over,” he said. For him, the narrative about a possible retreat reveals the “desperation” of the opponents.

The senator conditioned his candidacy on the will of God and performance in the polls, and recalled that party conventions only take place in August. “I’m not for sale. I entered politics on purpose. The people and God put me in, and the people and God will decide,” he concluded.
