In an article, PT president links the growth of global fascism to an economic crisis that, according to him, has persisted since 2008
The national president of , stated that the president of the United States, (Republican Party), is the “greatest representative of fascism” of the 21st century. The statement was made in an article published in this Thursday (June 11, 2026), in which the leader spoke about ways to contain the global authoritarian advance.
Edinho examined the international political panorama and proposed an agenda of economic and social changes that were reinforcedl of the party. The leader analyzed the strengthening of authoritarian leadership in the Americas and Europe. Trump was identified as the central figure in this phenomenon.
In the Americas, Edinho noted that the last elections showed the growth of authoritarian forces. These forces present themselves as a denial of traditional politics, which preserves the system of “concentration of income, deepening inequalities and national submission to the interests of imperialism”.
Edinho characterized Trump’s agenda as a combination of expansionism, persecution of immigrants, economic war, disregard for “democratic institutions” and aggressive defense of North American hegemony.
In the article titled “Democracy or barbarism is the choice of our time”the PT member highlights that fascist thinking is expanding in different regions of the planet, driven by an economic crisis that, according to him, has persisted since 2008. Edinho related this growth to the worsening of “social insecurity”fear of the future and disbelief in institutions.
Edinho mentioned that recent electoral results in Europe demonstrate this progress. Far-right parties grew, conditioned governments and naturalized xenophobic and anti-democratic speeches. The leader cited Portugal as an important example in this scenario and as a “sign of hope”.
According to Edinho, the right did not offer consistent answers to the precariousness of work, the cost of living and the growing social unrest, which the extreme right tried to transform this frustration into hatred. He highlights that the answer lies in the reorganization of the economic model, the reconstruction of hope and the victory of democracy as an instrument for transforming real life.
Latin America, for the president of the PT, suffered an economic reversal after a period of growth above the world average. Edinho stated: “This reversal coincides with the rupture of a regional political cycle, in which there was a majority of governments aligned with development projects with the expansion of rights, and, in the new cycle, they become, for the most part, defenders of the reduction of the State and rights, adopting the neoliberal guideline”.
The PT president cited China and India as examples of countries that managed to better face the crisis scenario. These countries maintained the capacity for state planning, public investment and stimulation of the internal market.
