The driver of a passenger train in the Olomouc region blew over 2.8 per million and is facing charges of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance. He faces up to three years in prison.

The Czech police charged a train driver who was driving a passenger train in the Olomouc region under the influence of alcohol at the beginning of May. At that time, the train driver blew over 2.8 per thousand. On Friday, the police reported on the accusation on the X social network, writes a TASR reporter in Prague.

“Today, the police commissioner started the criminal prosecution of the train driver, against whom he brought charges of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance. According to the criminal code, he faces a prison sentence of six months to three years for this crime,” said Miluše Zajícová, spokeswoman for the police of the Olomouc region. She added that the accused is being prosecuted at large.

Incident at train stops

Witnesses of the train driver’s strange driving alerted the police to the incident in early May. According to them, he repeatedly neglected to open doors for passengers at train stops, had visibly slow departures, as a result of which the train was gradually delayed. The police gave the man two breathalyzer tests, from which the result was 2.83 and 2.81 per thousand of alcohol.

The passengers are uninjured

According to the police, about 40 passengers were traveling in the train, which the accused man was driving in this state. None of them were injured as a result of the ride, and no damage was caused to property.
