Following the example of China: Cuba announces economic opening

Mexico City – Under pressure from Washington, the Caribbean state of Cuba wants to implement an economic reform modeled on the socialist market economy of China and Vietnam. Instead of the planned economy, which was previously heavily controlled by the state, the planned opening should enable more participation of the private sector, as President Miguel Díaz-Canel surprisingly announced. The Communist Party’s Politburo and Cuba’s National Assembly would still have to approve the reform.
