Croatia is once again facing harsh criticism, and foreign visitors are increasingly pointing out the extreme price hikes in the area of gastronomy and accommodation. For many of them, the price of a vacation on the Adriatic becomes unbearable and they claim that they will never return to the country.
A foreign tourist who visited Italy, Greece, France and Spain as part of a trip around Europe included Croatia in his itinerary at the last minute. His experience paid off to a huge disappointment – he marked the bills for basic meals, drinks or overnight accommodation on the social network for crazy.
According to him, the biggest problem is the disparity between quality and price, especially compared to other southern European countries. “The food was good, but compared to the other four states, it would easily rank in last, fifth place,” states a disgruntled tourist. For a simple plate of pasta, he had to pay twice what he would have paid in Italy, while the culinary experience was significantly weaker.
Business owners in popular resorts do not spare alcoholic drink lovers either. “The amounts of mixed drinks are crazy, they often exceed 17 euros. A glass of homemade red wine with a meal? Nine and sometimes even 10 euros for a small glass. I just don’t understand that,” he added. Despite the sharp criticism of the services, the tourist highlights the people of Croatia themselves, whom he describes as extremely nice people. He points out that even the locals are frustrated with the current situation.
“One person told me that even the tourism minister criticized the food and hospitality industry for being out of control. But wow, Croatia prices in Split or the island of Korcula make Florence cheap and Dubrovnik would make Zurich blush. We won’t be going back there again, and that’s a shame.” he finished. “Croatia, we love you, but we’re not coming back” the man wrote above his travel post.
