British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he “warmly welcomes” the deal announced between the United States and Iran, calling it a “hugely important step towards ending the war, ensuring regional stability and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.”
“We are ready to support the technical negotiations that will now begin”, added Starmer in his statement, published on social media this Sunday (14). “Our priority is for this to become a lasting and sustainable peace, and we will work with international partners to support this goal.”
UK support could include, “if necessary… the activation of an independent, defensive multilateral mission, the planning of which the UK and France have been leading so far, especially to provide mine clearance support” in the , Starmer said.
The Prime Minister further stated that “it remains the UK’s firm and long-standing position that Iran should never have one”.
