Moscow attributes the damage to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to a missile of the Patriot system

Russian rockets hit Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv. Zelenskyy demands more deliveries of air defense systems.

Russia claims that a missile from the American Patriot air defense system hit the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery complex on Monday night. That system failed because “Western countries supplied missiles to the Kyiv regime after the expiration date.” This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.

In response to the night attacks, Russia also declared that the civilian objects that were hit in Kyiv had a military use.

In the film studios of Oleksandr Dovzhenko, medium and long-range drones were allegedly produced. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the New Post terminal was used for the transportation and storage of dual-use goods, including components for the production of drones, robotic systems and means of electronic warfare.

The Russian Ministry of Defense added that several factories with a weapons program were among the targets of its attacks in Kyiv, e.g. the Radar or Burevestnik plant, and the civil aviation repair plant.

Massive attack on Dnipro and Kharkiv

In addition to Kyiv, the Russian army launched a massive attack on the cities of Dnipro and Kharkiv, and also hit military airports in Vasylkiv, Uman, Cherkasy and Slobidka.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery complex “one of Russia’s biggest crimes against Christian culture.” He appealed to G7 leaders, who will meet at a summit in the French spa town of Évian-Les-Bains, to step up pressure on Russia and help Ukraine with the supply of air defense systems, especially anti-ballistic missiles.

Ukraine expects an international reaction

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andriy Sybiha, called the latest attack by the Russian army on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra barbaric. At the same time, he announced that Ukraine will initiate all relevant procedures within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international mechanisms and will demand an immediate response to this act of state-sponsored barbarism.
