Tunisian leaders discuss dismissal of coach after World Cup defeat

The future of coach Sabri Lamouchi at the helm of the Tunisian national team, after the 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the 2026 World Cup debut, is being discussed “among the members of the federal committee“, a source close to the matter told AFP.

According to the source, the decision of the Tunisian Football Federation“one way or another”, must be taken “in the next few hours“.

Several press vehicles, especially Tunisian radio Mosaïque FM, stated this Monday (15) that Lamouchi would be fired due to the defeat in the debut for the Swedes, on Sunday.

According to another source consulted by AFP, “these information is not yet confirmed” and an “official stance” will be communicated “in the next few hours”.

Coach Lamouchi

Sabri Lamouchi, a former French national team player of Tunisian origin, has been in charge of the North African team since January this year.

Mondher Kebaier, who was Tunisia’s coach between 2019 and 2022, is currently accompanying the delegation, which is concentrated in Monterrey, Mexico.

According to one of the sources who spoke to AFP, Kebaier could be chosen to lead the team for the rest of the World Cup, if Lamouchi is fired.

Tunisia will play its next game on Sunday, against Japan, and will end its participation in Group F of the World Cup on the 26th, against the Netherlands.
