From September 20, 2026, all types of sharp and potentially dangerous fragments, decorations, glass finishes or barbed wire will no longer be allowed on fences and nets up to 2.2 m high. Currently, the regulations allow such fragments to be placed on fences 1.8 m higher. The new regulations harmonize European standards and are intended to increase the safety of people and animals. It is worth emphasizing that the change in law applies to all properties, including private properties in rural and agricultural areas. Only institutions with a special level of security, such as prisons or detention centers, are excluded.

. The amendment to the regulations also assumes a complete change of the infrastructure regarding fences, specifically entrance gates and wickets. From September 2026, the gate and gate will no longer be able to open outside the property. Only internal opening will be allowed. This solution is intended to increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, gates at multi-family buildings and public utility facilities will have to meet the conditions of access for people with needs. The minimum width of such gates will be 0.9 m, and the entrance gate – 2.4 m. It is also worth remembering that separate regulations apply in the case of fire escapes.
