Iceland was considered the most peaceful country in the world in 2026 by the Global Peace Index, prepared by the IEP (Institute for Economics & Peace). This is the 19th consecutive time that the country has occupied first place in the ranking.
Next are New Zealand, Switzerland, Slovenia, Ireland, Austria, Portugal, Singapore, Finland and Japan, which complete the top 10.
Brazil appears in 124th position among the 163 countries evaluated, a position higher than that recorded in , when it occupied 125th place.
In the South American comparison, the country is behind Uruguay (43rd), Chile (52nd), Paraguay (64th), Argentina (72nd), Bolivia (92nd), Guyana (103rd) and Peru (107th). On the other hand, Brazil appears ahead of Venezuela (133rd), Ecuador (135th) and Colombia (141st).
At the bottom of the list, Russia occupies last place, in 163rd place. The group of five least peaceful countries in the world is completed by Sudan (162nd), Democratic Republic of Congo (161st), Ukraine (160th) and Israel (159th).
According to the IEP, the index covers 99.7% of the world’s population and evaluates factors linked to peace and stability in countries. Among the criteria analyzed are public security, internal and external conflicts, political stability and levels of militarization.
