Court revokes arrest order for journalist persecuted by Zambelli

The Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo on Monday (June 15, 2026) ordered the arrest of the journalist, who was chased by the then federal deputy (PL-SP) with a gun in October 2022, in the Jardins neighborhood, in São Paulo.

The decision was taken after Araújo paid off the fine and the monetary payment, which totaled around R$2,200. The r through a “kitty” organized by family, friends and supporters of the journalist.

In the sentence, judge José Fernando Steinberg, from the Barra Funda Special Criminal Court, declared the sentence imposed on the journalist extinct after recognizing full compliance with the obligations imposed in the conviction.

At the time, the journalist received a sentence of 8 months in open detention, later replaced by alternative measures, including provision of community services and payment of a fine. According to the most recent court decision, he was ordered to comply with the financial obligation, but did not make the payment, which led to the sentence being converted into prison.

In the case of Jardins, by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) to 5 years and 3 months in prison for the crimes of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal restraint with the use of a weapon.

Currently, after the Italian Court of Cassation authorized his extradition to Brazil.
