President criticized the value of big techs and cited ECA Digital as “one of the most advanced pieces of legislation in the world”
The president (PT) spoke this Wednesday (June 17, 2026) at a G7 working lunch with the theme “Artificial intelligence and protection of minors on the internet”. In his speech, he criticized the concentration of wealth and power of big techs and stated that technology companies are worth the equivalent of large economies, “while 2.6 billion people remain disconnected from the internet”.
The president also cited the Digital ECA (Child and Adolescent Statute) and declared that the norm is among “the most advanced legislation in the world” aimed at protecting children and adolescents in the digital environment. Here is the speech (PDF – 181 kB).
