The federal deputy (Novo-RS) received an international award for his work in defense of freedom of expression. He was one of those honored in the first edition of the Free Speech Courage Awards, an award created by the organization Civilization Works.
According to the organization, the parliamentarian was chosen in defense of fundamental freedoms in Brazil.
The tribute is made while the deputy responds to a lawsuit in the (Federal Supreme Court) for attacks made during a speech in the tribune.

The case, according to the award organization, raises concerns about the constitutional protection of parliamentary immunity and freedom of political expression.
“I receive this honor with gratitude, especially because it represents an encouragement to millions of Brazilians who face persecution and censorship and because it comes from people who have contributed to the defense of freedom of expression around the world,” said the parliamentarian.
The ceremony was held this Thursday (18), in Westminster, London.
