Ismaël Koné, midfielder from Canada, suffered a serious leg fracture during the 6-0 defeat of Qatar, this Thursday (18), in Vancouver. The injury, which occurred at the beginning of the second half, generated great repercussion in the European press and should rule the player out of the World Cup played at home.
Sports outlets from the main European countries highlighted what happened to the Canadian athlete. In Portugal, the newspaper A Bola classified the episode as a “chilling injury”, while in Spain, the daily AS headlined: “Koné’s frightening injury: even his attacker collapses”.
AS also highlighted that Madibo, responsible for the tackle that caused Koné’s leg to break, left the pitch crying after receiving the red card. In England, the Telegraph used the image of the fallen player to illustrate the article and defined the incident as a “horror injury”.
The injury thing
Ismaël Koné’s “” fracture occurred five minutes into the second half, when the score was already 3-0 for Canada. In a seemingly unassuming play on the side of the field, Koné played the ball backwards and was hit from behind by Madibo.
