Striker Matheus Cunha scored two goals in the Brazilian victory over Haiti, which placed Brazil in first place in Group C of the World Cup, this Friday (19).
The number 9 valued the opportunity he received from coach Carlo Ancelotti to play as a starter. “I’m ecstatic,” he said in an interview with CazéTV.
The player celebrated the goals by simulating being on a surfboard and caught the attention of the fans.
The striker, who took to the field for the first time as a starter in this World Cup, said he knows the weight he carries by wearing the national team’s number 9 shirt, worn by the likes of Ronaldo Fenômeno, Careca and Tostão.
“It’s a privilege to be here,” said the striker who plays in English football for Manchester United.
RAPHINHA’S CONTUSION
In an interview after the match, Vinícius Jr. lamented Raphinha’s departure in the second half, with pain in his thigh: “He’s a very important player for us. We hope he can continue until the end of the World Cup with us.”
The striker also ruled out favoritism in games against teams considered smaller: “Everyone is playing on the counterattack. There are theoretically small opponents taking points from the giants.”
Asked about Neymar’s possible return to the team, the national team’s number 7 said he was happy with the Santos player’s progress: “I hope he can return in the next game.”
