The fire was reported shortly after midnight on Sunday.
According to initial findings, the fire broke out in the basement of the hotel building and threatened to spread to other floors. Due to the heavy smoke, the guests could not leave the hotel on their own. Firefighters therefore used revolving ladders to evacuate them.
A total of approximately 160 rescuers responded to the scene. The police could not comment on the cause of the fire or the amount of material damage immediately after the incident, adds the German agency.
