The governor () has been seeking dialogue with younger voters through an area that not every student likes: .
This Sunday (21), Tarcísio published a video on his social networks in which he uses a popular subject at the moment, the World Cup sticker album, to teach a lesson on applied probability.
The governor’s communications team assesses, according to Sheet found that this type of material speaks directly to younger people, showing that content such as mathematics and probability can be part of everyday life.
Since April 25th, this was the fourth video in which Tarcísio appears on a blackboard solving mathematical equations.
Tarcísio’s communication is led by publicist Pablo Nobel, who also collaborated with Javier Milei’s presidential campaign in 2023. Before running for President of Argentina, Milei also appeared on TV in front of a blackboard, explaining economic concepts to the population.
This Sunday’s video features the signature of the São Paulo Republican directory and the party’s CNPJ at the end of the class. In around eight hours of viewing, the video received 119 thousand likes.
In the material, Tarcísio proposes to discover how many stickers he would have to buy — and how much to spend — to complete the album without making any changes.
The result he arrives at, around R$7,311, is close to the calculation made, at the request of Sheetby professor Moacyr Silva, from FGV. When the album came out, he calculated that (R$ 7,338 in stickers and R$ 24.90 for the album).
In this Sunday’s video, Tarcísio used tools such as probability, harmonic series, Euler-Mascheroni constant and Neperian logarithm to solve the equation. These are topics that are part of the daily lives of students preparing for cutting-edge institutes, such as the IME (Military Engineering Institute) or the ITA (Aeronautical Technological Institute), in the opinion of Yuri Saporito, professor of applied mathematics at FGV.
Upon seeing the governor’s “class”, the only reservation the professor made was that the governor’s account had “a few leaps in argument”. Tarcísio did not explain all the formulas needed to solve the problem — which Saporito thought was due to the length of the video, which is four minutes long. “It’s cool math content, which helps popularize the area,” says the professor.
Economist Lorena Hakak, columnist for Sheetalso highlights the role of Tarcísio’s video in sparking interest in mathematics. “If a student had contact with some of this content in high school, they can look for applied mathematics classes.”
The governor has a history of passing public exams. He studied at the Army Cadet Preparatory School, in Campinas, where admission is by competitive examination and, from there, he passed the selection process at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy, in Resende (RJ).
A trained Army officer, he was also approved at the Military Institute of Engineering, where he completed his training as a civil engineer. In 2008, when he returned from Brazil’s mission in Haiti, he also passed a competition from the Comptroller General of the Union.
