End of the break in games!

UEFA has made it clear that it wants to distance itself from FIFA on this matter and has decided not to adopt the controversial mandatory “four-half football”.

While FIFA made 3-minute hydration breaks (in the middle of each half) a mandatory rule in all World Cup matches — regardless of the temperature, air conditioning or stadium roof —, UEFA took the opposite position.

The European entity has already warned that, at Euro 2028, it will not adopt automatic breaks. The interruption will only be allowed when the weather conditions really justify it, that is, with temperatures above 32°C. There will be no scheduled stop by default.

In the stadiums, fans’ rejection has been visible. Booing has already occurred in England and Croatia, with fans considering the pauses unnecessary.

Players and coaches have also been openly critical, saying the interruptions are more commercial than health-related.

And the numbers justify this distrust: according to reports, FOX alone (broadcaster in the USA) could earn more than US$250 million extra just with advertisements inserted during these breaks.

UEFA appears to have understood an important principle: exaggeration weakens the cause.

By avoiding mechanical and unnecessary interruptions, the entity preserves the rhythm of the game and respect for the fans.

And you, what do you think? Are hydration breaks necessary or just another commercial window in disguise?
