The holiday season is just getting started and the internet is already being shaken by a video that has scared and fascinated thousands of people at the same time. The well-known restaurant Gariful on the island of Hvar in Croatia published images on social networks, which immediately attracted enormous attention from the public.
The video, which was filmed directly from the ship, shows a sea creature that bears a striking resemblance to a shark. Witnesses caught it circling at great speed around a torn fish – probably a swordfish.
In the dramatic recording, the man can be heard immediately speculating about the worst possible scenario – that it is the dreaded blue shark. However, a heated debate immediately flared up in the comments under the post about what species it actually was.
While some people are convinced that the footage shows the dreaded blue shark, the other group is inclined to believe that it is a mako shark, which is one of the fastest shark species in the world.
“Obviously, you can’t tell 100 percent from the video what species it is, but everything indicates that it could very easily be a shortfin mako shark,” wrote one of the commenters, saying that the body structure and hunting style exactly correspond to this species. Other commenters proved him right. “It’s not a great white, it’s a mako,” one follower wrote. “A great white shark? No way!” added another forcefully.
The fact remains that the occurrence of both mentioned predators – the blue shark and the mako shark – has been recorded in the Adriatic over the years. Fortunately, encounters with them are extremely rare. That is why the video from around Hvar caused such a huge stir among sea lovers and vacationers. No one has yet officially confirmed which shark it was, and the images continue to haunt the Internet.
