The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday night (23) classified the Senate’s vote to limit its war powers against Iran as “untimely and meaningless”.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump added that the Senate, in passing the resolution, “provided aid and comfort to the enemy.”
“The US Senate decides to hold an ill-timed and meaningless vote on , telling the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism that the United States does not like what I am doing to them and that I must stop,” Trump wrote.
The resolution orders the president to withdraw military forces from the conflict with Iran, representing a significant rebuke to Trump and a strong message that the war does not have support in Congress.
Trump also criticized members of his party who voted in favor of the measure.
“Four failed Republicans voted with the ‘dumocrats,’ and Iran asked my people, ‘What does it all mean?’. These senators just made my job harder, but I’m going to get what needs done, one way or another, because I always get it done,” .
Republican Senators Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Bill Cassidy joined Democrats in voting in favor of the resolution, while Democratic Senator John Fetterman voted against it. The final score was 50 votes to 48.
The measure had already been approved by the . However, because it is a concurrent resolution, it does not require the president’s signature and, by definition, does not have the force of law.
