The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (24) that Iran informed the United States that passage fees were not being charged to ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The two countries, which concluded the first round of negotiations in Switzerland on Monday (22), presented contradictory versions of financial incentives for Iran, control of the Strait of Hormuz and Israel’s parallel war in Lebanon — all important aspects of the framework agreement signed last week with the aim of putting an end to the conflict.
Trump has faced internal criticism of the , including from hardliners in his own Republican Party.
“Iran has informed the U.S. that despite false and provocative news reports claiming otherwise, ‘THERE ARE NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS AND OR RECEIVED BY IRAN FROM SHIPS PASSING THROUGH THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ,’” Trump wrote in a social media post.
“If this information is false, they will be shut down immediately!”
