After singing the Brazilian national anthem again, this time before the World Cup match against Scotland, coach Carlo Ancelotti said he read the words to get them right and showed commitment to learning.
“I like singing the anthem. During this period I am, with honor, part of this country, so I liked singing it,” he said in an interview given after Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Scotland.
The coach also said that the Brazilian anthem is difficult and that’s why he needed to read it. Born in the small town of Reggiolo, in northern Italy, until now he only had the Italian anthem on the tip of his tongue.
Brazilian fans reacted enthusiastically to the coach’s efforts.
“Carlo Ancelotti singing the national anthem is pure aura,” said one. “It won me over, I’m totally obsessed,” commented a fan.
The coach had already surprised the Brazilians by singing the anthem at the opening of the game against Haiti, a week ago, a gesture that was received with sympathy.
Ancelotti also receives praise for trying to speak Portuguese in interviews given to the press during the world championship.
