The extremely increased consumption of drinking water in Záhorí may affect the smoothness of the supply of several municipalities in the coming days. It was pointed out by the Bratislava Water Company (BVS) on the social network, according to which the situation is aggravated by persistent dry and hot weather.
- The extremely dry and hot weather in Záhorí caused a sharp increase in water consumption.
- Municipalities dependent on springs are faced with declining resource abundance and increasing water withdrawals.
- The most critical situation is in the villages of Borský Mikuláš, Studienka and other named localities.
- A drop in the water level in reservoirs can lead to supply interruptions and emergency supply by tankers.
- Restrictions on filling pools and watering gardens should stabilize drinking water supplies.
The problem mainly concerns locations that are largely dependent on springs. “Their yield has been decreasing recently, but at the same time, water consumption is increasing with larger withdrawals. The increased consumption is most pronounced in the villages of Borský Mikuláš, Lakšárska Nová Ves, Studienka, Plavecké Podhradie, Borinka and Buková“, they clarified from BVS.
In some villages, according to water managers, the water level in reservoirs is already falling. “With continued high consumption the fluidity of the supply of drinking water may be threatened and it may also be necessary to resort to emergency supply by tankers“, they added.
The BVS called on the residents of the affected municipalities to limited the use of drinking water from the public water supply for purposes other than normal household consumption. This applies in particular to filling pools and hot tubs, watering gardens and lawns, washing vehicles or cleaning paved surfaces.
The water company warned that limiting larger withdrawals will help maintain a stable supply of drinking water for all consumers and will reduce the risk of further regulatory action being taken.
