The secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, stated this Thursday, 25th, that there is a transformational moment in defense investments, listing a series of initiatives adopted by countries to expand their capabilities and assume their responsibilities.
Among the countries mentioned, Rutte listed the example, considered “inspiring”, of Germany, given the European nation’s commitment to doubling its defense spending to reach 3.5% of its Gross Domestic Product by 2029.
In a panel at an Atlantic Council event, Rutte, however, noted that the supply of defense equipment is falling short of the increased demand for equipment.
“Now we need supply to meet demand in defense capacity”, highlighted the director, defending the use of innovation to fill this gap.
