It is the first meeting between the two after the senator’s nomination to occupy the position of government leader in the Senate
The president (PT) will meet with the government leader in the Senate, (PT-PE), on Monday (June 29, 2026). It will be the 1st meeting between the two since the senator took office, by (PT-BA).
At the meeting, authorities will discuss leadership priorities. When Teresa would be the new leader, the president stated that she will have the mission of “articulate the debate and approval of projects of interest to the Brazilian population that are in progress, such as the end of the 6 for 1 scale and the Security PEC, among others”.
The role was performed by Senator Jaques Wagner, who left the leadership after being cited in the , launched by the Federal Police on June 18 to investigate the possible participation of public agents in a scheme of irregularities involving financial system institutions.
In addition to the senator, businessman Augusto Ferreira Lima, owner of Banco Pleno and former partner, was the target of measures authorized by the Federal Supreme Court. 18 search and seizure warrants were executed in Bahia, São Paulo and the Federal District, in addition to precautionary measures, such as prohibition of contact between those under investigation and suspension of passports. According to the PF, the facts could constitute, in theory, the crimes of passive corruption, active corruption and money laundering.
Teresa Leitão was leader of the PT in the Senate. The expectation is that the position will be occupied by (PT-PA).
The definition must be made at a meeting of the PT bench in the Senate on Tuesday (June 30), at 8:30 am. One of the advantages highlighted is that, like Teresa, Faro will not run for elected office in 2026 — his term runs until 2031.
