Another smaller earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 hit the northern coast of Venezuela on Friday afternoon. Two previous devastating earthquakes have claimed nearly a thousand lives since Thursday, writes TASR based on a Reuters report.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the epicenter of Friday’s earthquake was located in the vicinity of the city of Maracay. It was also felt by the residents of the capital city of Caracas. It is not known whether the tremors caused damage or loss of life.
Two consecutive earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela overnight on Thursday. The northern state of La Guaira and the coastal area north of Caracas experienced the greatest damage. In the meantime, the number of victims has risen to 920 and will probably increase.
