“Asshole”: Flávio Bolsonaro sues STF against Janones for swearing on Instagram

Senator and pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) sued the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against André Janones (Rede-MG) for insult. In a criminal complaint filed on Monday, the 22nd, the lawyers cite five posts on Instagram in which the congressman uses expressions such as “tramp”, “idiot”, “asshole” and “worm”.

The publications were made between March and June of this year. In one of them, on March 25th, Janones states that he will “lower the bar”, “break the stick” and “be sensationalist” against Flávio. The senator’s lawyers cite the statement as evidence that the deputy’s intention is not political criticism, but rather to offend Flávio.

On April 12, in a second video, the deputy calls Flávio a “tramp”, “idiot”, “asshole” and “worm” when criticizing a publication by the senator about hunger during the Lula government.

In the third video, from April 15, Janones calls on followers to type “soldier” in the comments and announces “guerrilla training” to face Flávio.

On June 2, in a fourth video motivated by news about Flávio’s meeting with President Donald Trump, the deputy states that he is going to the United States to “show the entire country what these bandits, bums, are doing against the Brazilian people”.

Flávio’s lawyers argue that Janones’ conduct is not protected by parliamentary immunity or freedom of expression as it constitutes a pattern of behavior with the sole purpose of damaging the senator’s reputation.

The complaint requests conviction for five crimes of bodily harm and for the sentences to be increased because the crimes were committed against a public official and through social networks. The defense also requires compensation for moral damages worth a minimum of R$20,000, to be allocated to a charity.
